If you are considering breast augmentation for your asymmetrical or too-small breasts but want to avoid a too-dramatic change, don’t worry! Getting natural-looking and feeling breasts is perfectly doable with the right plastic surgeon. A board-certified and experienced plastic surgeon can guide you through choosing the size, material, shape, and profile of your implants so you can enjoy results you’ll love. We want to answer some commonly asked questions about how to achieve natural-looking results from your breast augmentation.
Which Implant Material Should I Pick?
When choosing between saline and cohesive silicone gel breast implants, most women go for silicone implants for a natural look and feel. The viscous gel inside silicone implants more closely mimics the look and feel of your breasts, and you can choose the degree of firmness that you like.
Traditional saline implants have their own benefits, but due to the saltwater solution inside, they can feel firmer than human fat. A newer saline implant called the IDEAL Implant®, however, uses several inner shells to give the implant a structure that makes it feel more like natural breast tissue.
How Should I Pick My Implant Size?
If you want breasts that are proportionate to your body, talk to your plastic surgeon about the results you are looking for. If you have a petite, fine-boned figure, for example, you probably won’t be satisfied with very large implants that overpower your body. Your plastic surgeon will review your height, build, skin quality, and amount of breast tissue and recommend the best implant size for you. They can also show you before and after photos of women who have similar figures so you can see the implant sizes they chose.
What Shape Implants Should I Choose?
Silicone gel implants can be teardrop-shaped or round; teardrop implants are shaped similarly to natural breasts with more fullness at the base. However, there is no guarantee that, once silicone gel implants are placed in the body, they will look more natural than round-shaped implants because the placement makes a difference. Your plastic surgeon can give you a recommendation based on your aesthetic goals.
I’ve posted some of my patients’ photos below with their implant details so you can start to get an idea of the options available and the type of results they create.
Why Do I Need a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon?
A board-certified plastic surgeon will draw on their years of experience to give you elegant and natural-looking breasts. When a plastic surgeon has performed many breast augmentation surgeries, they know which techniques to use to achieve your desired results. As you research plastic surgeons, reviewing patient testimonials can help you get a feel for how satisfied patients are with their results.
What Are Some Other Options for Natural Breast Augmentation?
If you are hesitant to try breast implants, your best option may be natural breast augmentation using fat grafting. During this procedure, your plastic surgeon will harvest excess fat from your stomach, thighs, or buttocks and transfer it to your breasts. This is a good way to add subtle volume and shape to the breasts with an in-office procedure using a local anesthetic. If you’re weighing whether implants or fat grafting is right for you, be sure to read our related blog post listing each option’s pros and cons.
